UK Envoy Says Royal Visit Will Strengthen US–UK Relations
Christian Turner said the four-day state visit by King Charles III and Queen Camilla is expected to proceed largely as scheduled following discussions between British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and US President Donald Trump on Sunday.
Trump said that King Charles would “be very safe” during his visit to the United States, following increased security attention after a recent incident involving a gunman at an event attended by the US president in Washington, DC.
In remarks to CBS’s 60 Minutes on Sunday, Trump said the White House grounds were “really safe,” adding: “I think it’s great, he’ll be very safe… this area of not very many acres is really safe.”
The royal visit is set to begin later on Monday, with King Charles and Queen Camilla scheduled to be formally welcomed by Trump and First Lady Melania Trump.
